Develop an evidence-based approach to risk management reviews.
The ISO 31000 Auditor Training programme in Dubai, UAE explores the practical tasks involved in examining an organisation’s risk management arrangements. A reviewer must understand the business objectives, management responsibilities, chosen risk criteria and quality of decisions before drawing conclusions about whether the risk process adds value. Merely checking that a risk register exists is not enough.
ISO 31000:2018 provides recognised guidance on risk management principles, the organisational framework and the process. The standard is not certifiable, so the scope and criteria of an audit or internal review need to be stated accurately. This course focuses on assessing how an organisation applies the guidance; it does not describe a fictitious ISO 31000 certification audit.
Learners explore how to define review objectives, select relevant processes and identify the people and records that can provide reliable evidence. Risk management may be embedded in capital decisions, operations, project approvals, procurement or business planning. The auditor therefore needs to see how decisions are actually made rather than assume one central department performs all the work.
The programme links risk knowledge with professional review techniques: preparation, interviews, observation, sampling, evaluation and reporting. Good evidence shows whether responsibilities are clear, criteria are usable, treatments are monitored and significant changes trigger fresh assessment. A balanced reviewer recognises the limits of a sample and reports those limits transparently.
